While this snake avoidance class is based primarily in positive reinforcement methods, some dogs May require additional forms of communication that May not be considered strictly r+ or purely positive reinforcement. This section is simply intended to open discussion regarding any tools, training methods, or forms of communication you May or May not be comfortable with during the training process. Our goal is always to create the safest, clearest, and most effective training plan for both the dog and handler.

ULTRASOUND-THIS IS USUALLY IN THE FORM OF A REMOTE THAT CREATES A SOUND THAT IS GENERALLY UNDESIRABLE FOR SOME BUT NOT ALL DOGS *

AIR-COMPRESSED AIR MAY BE USED AS AN ADDITIONAL FORM OF COMMUNICATION IF A DOG IS STRUGGLING IN A SPECIFIC AREA OF SNAKE AVOIDANCE TRAINING *

WATER-WATER IS NEVER USED ON THE FACE AS PUNISHMENT. IF USED IT WOULD ONLY BE LIGHTLY APPLIED TO AREAS SUCH AS THE BACK LEGS AS A BRIEF FOCUS INTERRUPTION TO HELP REDIRECT THE DOG TOWARD THE DESIRED BEHAVIOR. *

VERBAL CUES/NEGATIVE MARKERS-VERBAL CUES SUCH AS “NO” OR “EH-EH” ARE EXAMPLES OF NEGATIVE MARKERS USED TO INTERRUPT BEHAVIOR AND REDIRECT THE DOG TOWARD THE DESIRED RESPONSE. *

VIBRATE-IN THE FORM OF A COLLAR AND MAY POTENTIALLY BE USED FOR DOGS WITH STRONGER PREY DRIVE TO HELP INTERRUPT FIXATION AND REDIRECT THE DOG TOWARD THE DESIRED BEHAVIOR. *

CITRONELLA-IN THE FORM OF A COLLAR AND MAY BE AN EFFECTIVE TOOL FOR STRONGER PREY DRIVE. *

Each of these forms of communication is not used as a method of punishment, but rather as a way to interrupt behavior and help guide your dog toward the desired response and safer decision-making. Our goal is always clear communication, improved understanding, and creating the safest possible outcome for both the dog and handler during the training process.
